Built late in the summer of 2006, Migley Field is the standard by which all other Old Republic
Whiffle Ball League ballparks are judged. The ballpark has been home to the New Carlisle
Newts since the inaugural season of the ORWBL in 2007.
Migley Field has been the showcase venue for the league, as it has hosted all five ORWBL
All-Star Games (2007-2011). Two ORWBL World Series have been played at Migley Field. In
2008, the LaPorte Sox defeated the Newts. While in 2009, the Pterodactyls defeated the
Newts. Outside of the ORWBL, the ballpark has hosted the Final Four of the New Carlisle
Hometown Days City Championship since 2006. It also hosted Snow Football League
games from 2007-2010.
On June 12, 2007, the first night game in league history was played at Migley Field. The
Newts completed a sweep of then National League rival Cornhole. Temporary lights are
used for one night series each season, but day whiffleball is preferred.
The ballpark was built as a tribute to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. The name
comes from combining "Mini" and "Wrigley" to form "Migley." The main features are simplified
replicas of the famous red marquee sign and manually operated scoreboard.
Atop the scoreboard, the flags of the ORWBL teams are flown to show the current standings.
At the conclusion of a game at Migley, a win or loss flag is flown to show the result of the day's
game.
Flags celebrating the Cubs back-to-back World Series championships in 1907 and 1908 are
proudly flown atop the red Migley Field sign.
The foul poles at Migley display Jack Brickhouse's saying of "Hey Hey." At the top of the foul
poles are the flags honoring the retired jersey numbers of the Chicago Cubs. Ernie Banks'
no. 14, Ron Santo's no. 10, and Ferguson Jenkins' no. 31 fly from the left field pole, while Billy
Williams' no. 26, Ryne Sandberg's no. 23, and Greg Maddux's no. 31 fly from the right field
pole.
Harry Caray is also honored at the ballpark, as his silhouette logo is displayed on the
backstop. Under Armour signs have been added to the outfield fence to recreate the doors in
the outfield wall at Wrigley. Ivy was planted in 2007 and continues to grow up the chain-link
fence.
Due to its location on a corner in a residential neighborhood and the Newts strong following,
walk-up crowds often exceed the capacity of 16. The ORWBL attendance record was set in
2009, when a crowd of 25 took in a night game between the Newts and the crosstown
Pterodactyls. The record was broken in 2011, when a crowd of 49 attended a Newts game.
