Schmittfaced Field
Home of the Banana Slugs
Ballpark Profile | 08/09/11
With perhaps the most scenic view in all of whiffleball, the Banana Slugs play at Schmittfaced
Field on the shores of Hudson Lake. Schmittfaced Field is the third ballpark used by the
B-Slugs franchise, who originally played at The Palace of Bourissa Hills (2007).
It has been home to the team since 2010, when Brad Schmitt took over as owner/manager.
Hudson Lake runs along the third baseline of the field. There is no opportunity for home runs
to end up in the lake, but the breeze off the lake makes a difference in the ballgames.
The ballpark hosted a critical series late in the 2010 season between the B-Slugs and then
AL West rival La Porte Sox. The Sox won the series and went on to win the AL West Division
title by just one game. According to Sox players after the game, the wind coming off the lake
played a huge role in the outcome.
The outfield wall is made up of orange snow fence. The dimensions are similar to the
Banana Slugs original home, The Palace, with the exception of the short porch in right field
(90 feet).
