Lindsey expected back full-time next season
Newts struggled without perennial All-Star in 2011
Team Report | 11/22/11
NEW CARLISLE- The New Carlisle Newts experienced the worst season in franchise history
in 2011, going 17-25 and not capturing a division title for the first time ever. Four-time All-Star
Marc Lindsey's absence from the Newts lineup played a significant role in New Carlisle's
struggles.
Lindsey spent the summer away from New Carlisle working and was available for only one
week in July.
Lindsey, who hit .623 with 57 home runs and 100 RBI in 2010, appeared in only six games
last season. His production, as a result, decreased dramatically as his average dropped to
.371. He hit seven home runs and drove in 12 runs.
The Newts expect Lindsey to return to a full-time role in 2012, as he has made an initial
commitment to the team for next summer. If Lindsey does in fact return full-time, it is
expected he will regain his spot in the pitching rotation as the Newts ace. He only pitched in
two games last season, going 0-2 in those starts.
Since their second consecutive trip to the ORWBL World Series in 2009, the Newts have
struggled to put together their core lineup. In addition to Lindsey missing 36 games in 2011
Garrett Curless only appeared in 9 games in the 2010 season. The Newts are 41-43 over
that stretch, compared to 65-21 during the first three years of the franchise.
