NEW CARLISLE- As the Old Republic Wiffle Ball League has expanded, more and more
new players have entered the league each season. To recognize the accomplishments of
first year players, managers voted for Rookie of the Year in both the American and National
Leagues.
The 2013 Rookies of the Year are Zach Rehlander of the Pterodactyls in the American League
and Emery's Army's Cody Jackson in the National League.
Rehlander helped the 'Dactyls to a hot start, as Bourissa Hills won 10 of their first 12 games.
He batted .420 in 36 games. Rehlander's 33 home runs were tied for the team high, and he
led the team in RBI with 76. The 'Dactyls pitching staff, however, was not as stellar. Bourissa
Hills allowed a staggering 606 runs on the season and eventually fell out of contention.
Jackson first broke onto the scene last summer, appearing with the Taco Punchers in the City
Championship. After a run to the Hometown Cup Finals, Emery's Army picked him up for the
2013 ORWBL season. He became an everyday presence, providing consistency behind the
plate for the Army.
ORWBL.com will continue to provide coverage of the 2013 season awards. On Tuesday, the
Cy Young winners from each league will be announced.
