League Office Approves Elkhart Expansion Team: "BFAM"

NEW CARLISLE - In recent years, the Old Republic Wiffleball League has grown and expanded considerably. With additions scaling from Michigan City, all the way into Granger there is no doubt that the league is becoming larger and larger every season. This trend will continue in 2019 as a new expansion team will be joining the league: the Elkhart B-FAM. BFAM (which stands for Brothers From Another Mother) joins ORWBL following solid showings in a number of non-league tournaments in 2018. After team staples Walter Griffin III and Brandon Terry participated in the Hometown Cup as members of Landsharks, they were hooked and brought their own team under the name BFAM to Cody's Community Tournament

NEW CARLISLE - League offices have announced that the Olive Township Mechanics will be returning to the Old Republic Wiffleball League following their one-year hiatus. Olive Township's return helps fill the empty void left by both South Bend and Rolling Prairie, as both of those teams have announced they will not be participating in 2019. The Mechanics' return marks the 13th confirmed team for next season, and it certainly adds some security regarding the uncertainty with the Cabo Yabos. The 2018 Most Valuable Player awards were handed out to two very deserving candidates in Maple City's Caleb Jonkman and Lynn Street's Bailey Rhed. Both players played huge roles in the success of their teams. Starting out with the American League, it was the Champion: Maple City Magic's starting Left-Fielder Caleb Jonkman who took home his first ORWBL MVP trophy. After winning American League Rookie of the Year in 2017, Caleb came back this season with improved numbers as he helped lead his Magic to back to back

Throughout last month, the 2018 season awards were announced on the official ORWBL twitter account (@ORWBL). All awards were voted on by the 14 Managers of the league. When it comes to those hurling junk from the mound, nobody did it better in their respective league's than Twin Branch's Andrew Doran and Maple City's Wes Ellis. Doran was awarded his first Cy Young award in the Billy Goats' inaugural season while Ellis received his second straight AL Cy Young award. Starting with the National League it was the Manager Andrew Doran who came away with the Cy Young honors. Starting in the American League, there was an extremely close vote between a couple of players but it was the Hudson Lake Heat's Jasen Webb who was awarded American League Gold Glove honors. Maple City Magic manager Alex Friedman won the award in the American League, while Saugany Lake Landsharks manager Levi Miller came home with the hardware over in the National League. For Friedman, this award marks the 5th time the Maple City Manager has come home with a Manager of the Year award, each time with the Magic in the American League. Cseh, Richards earn NL and AL Rookie of the Year Honors

NEW CARLISLE- As the season concluded, ORWBL Managers had a vote for the 2018 regular season awards. All 14 Managers got their ballots in and the first award announced was the NL and AL Rookie's of the Year. Adam Cseh of the South Shore Silver Sluggers was named as the 2018 National League Rookie of the Year. Cseh went 60-104 as he finished out the season with a .577 AVG to go along with 28 Home Runs and 45 RBI. Cseh had a fantastic first season with ORWBL while also helping lead the Silver Sluggers to an 8-16 record which surpassed many people's expectations for this young first year team. There is no doubt that Cseh played a major role in helping the Silver Sluggers exceed expectations.
