Mechanics shock the Yabos, taking 2 of 3

Sunday's series marked the opening of the Mechanics home field "The Garage."

OLIVE - Cabo came into Sunday's matchup against Olive Township seeking to take advantage of the Newts' slow start and gain an early season lead in the NL East. The winless Mechanics were having none of that and quickly proved that this would be a 3 team race for first in the division.

With the wind howling out at gusts regularly hitting 15 mph, both the Yabos and Mechanics enjoyed some early season inflations to both their batting averages, as well as their ERAs. The teams combined to score an astonishing 136 runs in 3 games, with 2 of the games being scored in the 20s.

Olive Township took Game 1 against a short handed Cabo team 18-13, with Pitcher Aidan Cotter (1-3) guiding them to their first franchise win in ORWBL history.

Cabo battled back in Game 2 with the help of some reinforcements showing up, nearly hitting the 30 mark and winning 29-21 in large part thanks to a number of big innings with the wind at their backs.

The rubber match looked like a Cabo blowout through 4 1/2 innings, as the Yabos held a 15 run advantage heading into the bottom of the 5th. The Mechanics then preceded to score 14 runs in the bottom of the 5th to get themselves back in the game. Cabo answered back in the 6th with 2 more of their own, but ended up squandering the lead in the bottom of the 6th, capped off by a walk-off solo HR by Tynan Williams.

Cabo (3-3) will look to get back on track next week as they return home to host another divisional opponent in the Newts (3-3) who are fresh off a 2-1 series win over South Bend. Olive Township(2-4) will continue their 9 game homestand next week against the NL leading Dabbers (4-2), looking to win a key series without star OF Kody Webb (20 HRs).
