Godfathers surprise Junkballers with series win

New Carlisle- The Great Lakes Godfathers pulled off a surprise series win to kick off the ORWBL regular season by taking 2 out of 3 against the Jet City Junkballers at Old Rock Field. Heading into the opening week, many had picked Jet City as the most likely team to sweep but Mark Haase and company had other plans.

Great Lakes came out swinging but Jet City was able to pick up a Game 1 victory behind a Shane Anderson walk off single. Other than that, Anderson had a day to forget in his debut with Jet City, striking out 6 times at the plate. For Jet City, one of their lone bright spots was Tony Koch's performance as he hit for .750 on the day. Unfortunately for Jet City, it was not enough as Great Lakes picked up wins in the final 2 games of the series.

While Mark Haase performed as usual, Great Lakes got an incredible performance from Billy Beckman who only appeared in 3 games last season. Recent acquisition Jeremy Ross also provided some spark for the Godfathers as he figures to be a key part of their success this season. If Beckman can continue to provide numbers even close to what he did on Opening Day, Great Lakes could surprise many people this season.

All in all, it was a great day for Michigan's team as they showed a lot of promise by taking the series. As for Jet City, they are left scratching their heads heading into Week 2. To make matters worse, Jet City's Manager, reigning AL Cy Young, and Home Run leader Nate Arndt injured his ankle and is out indefinitely.
