Newts receive World Series rings, take 2 over Taco Punchers

NEW CARLISLE- The Newts received their World Series rings and unveiled their Championship Banner on Opening Day in some very unfavorable hitting conditions. In a battle of the founders of the league, the Newts took 2 out of 3 over the Taco Punchers in 3 low scoring tightly contested ballgames.

There were only 13 runs scored on the day, but Migleyville went home happy as they took the rubber match on a walk off single by Matt Soos who added yet another clutch hit to his name. The Newts were able to get their rally started after Danny Hernandez hustled out a grounder hit right in front of the plate. Manager Koby Keck let Hernandez know he was safe with an emphatic safe call (pictured above).

The first victory of the series was actually Keck's 200th victory as a manager which puts him as the only Manager in the 200 win club. He is 73 wins ahead of the 2nd winningest Manager Alex Friedman (Maple City). Keck and his Newts figure to have a major shot at defending their title this season as New Carlisle's loaded lineup remained in tact over the offseason.

The Taco Punchers, and Panthers figure to be the main threats to New Carlisle in the National League in 2017. While Galena Marsh starts their season at 1-2, there is no shame in losing two 1 run games to the Newts at Migley Field. Look for both of these teams to have yet another quality season in 2017.
