Cyclones Upset Heat in Inaugural Series

LA PORTE- Making their 1st appearance as a member of the Old Republic Wiffleball League, the La Porte Cyclones took 2 out of 3 against the Hudson Lake Heat, turning some heads around the league.

Hudson Lake figures to compete for an American League Championship this year but they continued their Opening Day struggles as they have lost 5 out of 6 Opening Day series all time.

La Porte started on the right track in their quest to be yet another first year team to find success in their inaugural season. 2018 AL Rookie of the Year Mark Richards was dealing on Sunday as he was really hitting his spots. Richards commented that he felt that he had a solid core of outfielders behind him.

After splitting the first 2 games, the rubber match was one for the books as Richards was able to stretch out an inside the park Home Run on a misjudged grounder and a missed peg at 2nd keeping things going that sent Richards from 3rd to home on a nonchalant play by the pitcher.

In the following inning, Hudson Lake's Ben McDonald did the same by stretching out an inside the Parker after a bobble at the fence and an errant throw.

Going into the 6th with the game tied at 2 with 2 outs and one on, Richards came up big yet again, smashing a bomb to straight CF which put La Porte up 4-2.

Richards and the Cyclones defense closed out the game in the bottom of the 6th to seal their first series win against a very good Hudson Lake team.

After the series, Mark Richards had the following statement about his team's series win. "I couldn't do it without my teammates. They were able to create a lot of outs today in the outfield, but we still are trying to find more consistent plate appearances. After this first series, we are looking to keep things rolling, but we know that we have a tough task at hand this next series with the Goats."

All in all, it was a memorable day for the Cyclones who already show that they belong.
