Granger sweeps Lynn Street in first road series
LYNN STREET- A beautiful Summer’s day in New Carlisle didn’t start off too beautifly for the undefeated Granger Panthers. Evan King, the starting pitcher for Lynn St struck out three Panthers in Game 1, two of which were in the first inning.
After 2 innings the Leps were up 1-0 with a little momentum. They had the Panthers scoreless and the fans at Rocko’s Park were loving every bit of it. The Panthers eventually started to adapt to King’s pitching, slowly totaling 9 runs the next 4 innings.
The Panthers were led by the bat of Daivyn Alan Davis in Game 1, as he was 4 for 5, and the only Panther with more than 2 hits. Griffin Smith was on his usual stuff on the mound allowing just 2 runs in 6 innings, with the Granger defense having his back. Panthers took Game 1, 9-2.
Smith DH’d in Game 2 as Tyler “Tiki” Seroczynski started on the mound for Granger. Tiki had plenty to work with as the Panther bats finally came alive. Everyone was hitting as 7 Panthers had a hit the second game.
But Griffin Smith refused to get out. Smith was 9 for 9 in the game, which was part of a stretch of 15 straight hits for Granger’s captain, 4 of them being Home Runs. Alex Zarazee added 3 dingers of his own while Daivyn Alan Davis had 2. Tiki held the Leps to just 3 runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Brett Shepard came in for the save to seal the series victory, as the Panthers won 20-3.
After pitching well in Game 2, Tiki was back on the mound for Granger in Game 3. In a very similar game to the one prior, Granger was hitting early and often. Alex Zarazee was 8 for 8 in Game 3 for Granger, with 4 HRs and 7 RBIs. Griffin Smith was 7 for 8 with 6 base hits.
Seth Campbell and Daivyn Alan Davis each had 2 HRs of their own, and Austin Williams had a pair of hits to add. The Leps were thin in numbers Sunday, and it showed a bit.
They were kept scoreless by Tiki for 5 innings, before Brett Shepard came in to pitch the 6th and gave up a solo home run to Zach Brassell, blowing the shutout. That was the last run of the day as Granger won 17-1.
The Leps (2-7) have had to play both of the league’s undefeated teams making it a tough road thus far, but something to be optimistic about going forward. They travel to Twin Branch next week to take on the Billy Goats (4-5). For Granger (9-0), they will travel out of state to Niles, Michigan to take on the Great Lakes Godfathers (3-6).
