County Line's JP Kehoe and Granger's Alex Zarazee take home ORWBL MVP honors

Throughout the week, the Old Republic Wiffleball League has been handing out its yearly honors. Today we conclude awards week by announcing the 2020 Most Valuable Player award winners from both the American and National League.

Starting off in the American League, County Line's Triple Crown winner JP Kehoe takes home MVP honors after leading County Line to an 18-6 overall record.  Kehoe received a ton of support from voters, finishing with a comfortable lead over DJ Hill who finished in 2nd place.

It was a memorable season for the soon to be McKendree University baseball star as he put together one of the more productive ORWBL seasons that we have ever seen since we moved to a 24 game regular season.

Kehoe's elite performance throughout the season has been a huge reason that County Line has been able to have the type of success that they are having.  JP and his fellow Kings teammate Kody Webb were voted in as American League All Star Starters for the midsummer classic.

He finished the season with 57 HR to go along with a .620 batting average, driving in 76 runs while scoring 68 runs himself.

His 57 HR, 76 RBI, and .620 batting average earned him American League Triple Crown honors while his 2.26 Home Runs per at bat was tops in all of ORWBL.

After missing their Opening Day series, Kehoe was inserted into their lineup for their series against Maple City at Magic Park. Kehoe slugged County Line from start to finish that day as Maple City struggled to keep him in the yard.

Kehoe led the charge for the Kings that day as they picked up a huge series win against the 3x defending World Series Champions.  After leading the Kings to victory in his first series he then followed it up a couple of weeks later by smashing 17 HR against the Wildcards at The Palace of Bourissa Hills.

After entering the Kings lineup, County Line went on to finish the season with an 18-3 record while finishing the American League as the number two seed, earning a bye straight into the ALDS.  The Kings finished the regular season as the highest scoring team in the league.

Considering they got swept by the Flat Rock Cyclones on Opening Day, it was quite impressive to see them vault past the Cyclones in the standings to earn the bye.

He and the Kings will look to keep their dream season alive on Sunday as they will travel to Magic Park once again to take on the Maple City Magic in what should be a very competitive American League Championship Series. If he can hit like he has been all season long, County Line has to like their chances.

Meanwhile over in the National League it was Alex Zarazee of the Granger Panthers who received the most support from the voters with Elkhart's Walter Griffin III coming in 2nd place.

A year removed from helping lead the Granger Panthers to their first Hometown Cup title, Zarazee put together quite the memorable season as the Panthers top hitter.

Zarazee finished the season right at the .500 mark while also belting out 52 Home Runs to go along with 78 RBI & 62 Runs.  His 2.85 Home Runs per at bat placed him 3rd best in all of ORWBL.

Zarazee was one of only two players in all of ORWBL to reach the 50 HR mark, joining County Line’s JP Kehoe who hit 57. His 52 HR & 62 Runs led the National League while he finished as the ORWBL league leader in RBI as he was a major run producer, driving in 78.

His fine season at the plate certainly translated into plenty of wins for the Panthers as they finished the regular season as the National League’s top overall seed.

The Granger catcher came up with the walk off Home Run against the Newts that clinched the number one overall seed for the Panthers in the final game of the season.  That was just one of many moment in which Zarazee shined this season.

With Zarazee having the season that he has, the Panthers have been able to form one of the most lethal lineups from top to bottom in all of ORWBL.

He and the Panthers will look to continue their march to a title on Sunday as they will meet up with Elkhart BFAM in the Best of 5 National League Championship Series which will all be played at Snead Field.

Both League Championship Series' kick off on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at both sites slated for 1pm ET.
